Essential Learnings 1. Students will apply appropriate strategies and skills to understand a variety of texts.
2. Students will use critical thinking skills to evaluate a variety of texts.
3. Students will select, interpret, and evaluate relevant information from a variety of sources.
4. Students will appreciate that literature provides an understanding of human experience.
5. Students will apply the writing process to organize and strengthen modes (types) of writing.
6. Students will write with appropriate conventions: spelling, capitalization, and punctuation. (mechanics)
7. Students will apply the rules of grammar and apply them in their writing. (grammar)
8. Students will write fluently. (style)
9. Students will speak effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences.
